Traditional smoke extraction
Traditionally, permanent openings of the respective size are
therefore built into the shaft head.

In lift shafts within the thermal building envelope the warm room air
streams through the slits between the shaft doors into the shaft and,
intensified by the stack effect, leaves the building through the smoke
exhaust opening.

Considerable heat loss and high heating costs are the consequence.
The German Energy Savings Decree (Energieeinsparverordnung/
EnEV) requires the entire surface of a building to be sealed
hermetically.
